Abstract

The aim of the research is to study the interconnection of open and ground water of Shirvan steppe of Azerbaijan. The article deals with filtration and infiltration types of interconnection and method for determination. We compared the chemical compositions of open waters – meteoric water, river water, irrigation-drainage water and irrigation water with ground waters – subsoil waters, pressure waters and piestic waters. Almost, except for a number of variations, in the remaining cases, drainage, subsoil and pressure waters have an analogical composition. According to long-term data (1950-1980), factor of medium-quadratic correlation was determined between the level of ground water in the well, which is located in the mountainous zone of the steppe, 4 km from the river. According to the obtained results, river waters of Shirvan steppe are formed by atmospheric precipitation and subsoil waters. According to the level of this connection, three districts are separated. First district is located in the diluvial sediments of the mountainous zone which is above 170 m from the hypsometric level and surrounds 14 percent of the total area, second – 170-50 m and 8 percent, third – 50-0 and 78 percent
