Abstract
The paper addresses the problem of using online dictionaries by students who do not major in linguistics. It discusses the culture of consulting lexicographical materials, namely, monolingual explanatory dictionaries and bilingual translation dictionaries. The article also describes a number of teaching techniques that help to use online dictionaries effectively.The techniques include taking a virtual field trip to explore a dictionary, analyzing its distinctive features, and showing how to use its content to find specific linguistic information.
