MATERNAL OBESITY AND FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH MODE OF DELIVERY

Abstract
Background: Maternal obesity has become one of the most commonly occurring risk factors in obstetric practice. Obesity during pregnancy and pre-pregnancy increases the risk of various pregnancy complications, like high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, preterm labor, stillbirthand maternal mortality. The objectiveofan identified factor associated with maternal obesity. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 340 pregnant women performed from the obstetric hospital in Baghdad, Iraq, between 1st jun to 30 December 2016. Data collection by Questionnaires were completed through interviews with pregnant women and using patient records. To analyze the data, the Chi-square test was run, using SPSSversion20. Results: The prevalence of maternal obesity was 57.8%With mean body mass index (BMI) was 26.6 ? 8.52 Kg/m2 and it was significantly higher among women who delivered by cesarean section. The significantly high rate of maternal obesity was found in low education women, havethe previous history of abortion and more age women. Conclusion: Obese women with a higher risk of having a CS.
