Abstract

In the summer of 2017, we studied the species diversity and number of birds in alfalfa fields in the farmlands of Parkent District, in the foothills of the Chatkal Range, Western Tien Shan. Birds were being monitored along the same routes. In total, 22 surveys were carried out. We analysed the data that we had obtained and concluded that in the summer months 41 bird species from 14 families and 6 orders occur in alfalfa fields in non-irrigated lands in the foothills of the Chatkal Range. The ornithological community of non-irrigated alfalfa fields comprises primarily Passeriformes consisting of 31 species (75.6 %). They also dominate in number – on average 161.4 individuals on 10 ha of land or 93.9 % of all birds were recorded during the summer months. They comprise the following families: Paseridae – 39.3 %, Sturnidae – 23.7 %, Emberizidae – 15.4 %, Alaudidae – 10.7 %, Motacillidae – 2.8 %, Corvidae – 1.4 % and Lanidae – 0.2 %.
