Abstract

‘Vatan Tutkusu' is a Liberation War novel written by İlhan Tarus during the time when Turkish literature was progressing towards realist and naturalist direction and during that time, the way of telling whatever you see or reflecting whatever was happening in the life, was in the foreground. Author has three novels which are appreciated in the National Liberation Movement. ‘Var Olmak', which is the first one, tells the war preparations in Biga. ‘Hükümet Meydanı' treats the subject of rebellion of Konya which was progressing against the Kuvayi Milliye (militia forces). ‘Vatan Tutkusu' contains the background of three Efes' (hectors) resistance story against the occupation too. Although these novels are free of concern of being documented, they are important for a person who, as a witness of the period and an author and an intellectual, substantiates the missions undertaken. Events progress in the way they happened in the history. A true member of Militia Forces Osman Efe resists against the occupation by joining the forces with other two chiefs of predatory gangs. As an idea or a sentiment, ‘fatherland concept' is owned only by the main character of the novel and a few others. While the gang is going through infighting, national awakining that brought about in Osman's identity, is on the way of becoming reality.
