Abstract
Dental amalgam, an alloy of a metal and mercury, has been widely used since its inception in the nineteenth century. A considerable amount of literature has addressed the issues of occupational health and environmental exposure to mercury. It has been the subject of various controversies ever since its inception in dentistry. This review attempts to evaluate the reports through an evidence-based analysis.
