Abstract
Global warming refers to increasing average surface temperatures of earth and it has become a threat to biota. Increase in the ambient temperature increases indoor and outdoor temperature level of the houses which augments the usage of mechanical air-conditioning systems. Passive cooling roof tops belong to such an idea for reducing the energy consumption and improve the comfort level of buildings. This paper investigates the impact of ceramic tiled roof with Aluminum reflector on the cooling potential of residential and commercial buildings in peak seasons of Oman. Experimental analysis shows that compared to the normal bare roof, the indoor air and roof slab surface temperature of the ceramic tiled roof with Aluminum reflector were reduced by a maximum of 3.41oC and 5.24oC respectively
