Abstract
Highways are designed and constructed to provide effective transportation system to society. It has been observed from the records of past decades that usage of vehicles and number of accidents has become more. In order to control the accidents on roads most effective process is to conduct the road safety audit on existing roads. For this study, the selected stretch is NH-16 from Hanuman Junction to Vijayawada Vaaradhi from 1058.000km to 1100.500km chain age. On this stretch it is identified 354 mitigation points. Road safety audit is done with the help of a questionnaire survey. These questionnaires were prepared for individual mitigation points. Data regarding the accident data was collected to identify the weak points on the highway. With the help of the data from the questionnaire we calculated the safety percentages for each mitigation points and overall safety percentage for total stretch. These safety audit process is used for any types of highways and it is designed for global utilization.
