Abstract

Electric discharge machining is the Non-traditional machining process used for the hard metals or those materials which are difficult to machine by some other traditional processes. The electric discharge machining process is based upon the thermo electric energy between the work piece and electrode. In Electric discharge machining a series of successive electric discharges results in material removal from the work piece. To improve machining condition, we can find some set of machining parameters which will give better results. In this research work we took four process parameters i.e. Current, Voltage, Pulse on time & Pulse off time with three levels of each to find out the best set of parameters to achieve results like higher material removal rate, better surface finish and lesser tool wear rate. We performed experiments on AISI 304 steel work-piece. With the help of Taguchi method, we got the optimized result. The result revealed that the current, voltage, pulse on time & pulse off time have a great influence on the MRR, SR & TWR. At medium value of current and lower values of Voltage, pulse on time & pulse off time, we get the best optimal values of MRR, SR & TWR.
