Abstract
Condition monitoring is the process of monitoring a parameter in order to identify the cause of a significant change in the performance of the turbine. This indicates the development of fault which leads to failure. The main aim of Condition monitoring is to supress the faults at its initial stage before they lead to major failure. Increasing the cycle time of the turbine is another advantage of Condition Monitoring. Data collection, refinement, processing, arriving at diagnostic decisions will be discussed. In this work we are considering the two major failures which are most common in turbines. They are Misalignment and Unbalance. Analysing the signatures caused by the misalignment and unbalance further diagnostics are processed. The time domain signature of the turbine is transformed to the frequency domain signature using Fast Fourier Transform. The magnitude and the frequency at the peaks of the signature decides the severity of the fault. Thus we are going to perform the signature analysis in order to the analyse the signals which are the result of malfunctioning of the turbine.
