Abstract
To expand production, improve quality and reduce cost, machine tools have to work efficiently and also free from failures or at least with minimum failures. This is more so with automatic and flexible activity. A quick root cause identification of a failure source can reduce repairs and the time for restoration. Many condition monitoring techniques are available to monitor the machine health experimentally using sensors and instrumentation. Among these techniques vibration monitoring is highly suited and it is time tested. In this work vibration is measured by placing ADXL345 accelerometer sensor at three different positions like head stock, tail stock and tool post of lathe machine while performing turning operation with mild steel. Data collected through sensor is passed on directly to cloud i,e ubidots iot platform via nodeMCU. Whether job gets affected or tool gets affected it is mission failure. Therefore in either case early warning through signature is given to stall the machining. If tail-stock indicates fault and that too a persisting one the whole batch produced in those conditions need closer inspection. Suitable decision policy procedures can be established machine-wise in a shop there by throwing light on CM Techniques in the context of Lathes big, medium or small. On the whole it is a technique very simple with a promise for even beginners who wish to enhance shop floor productivity with minor training aspects involved.
