AN INTEGRATED EVALUATION FOR FEASIBILITY STUDY OF MONORAIL AS MASS RAPID TRANSIT SYSTEM FOR VIJAYAWADA

The reason to introduce monorail is to reduce the traffic congestion in study area which is nothing but Vijayawada. The main purpose of mass rapid transit system is to carry passengers and freights in large number. Traffic congestion, higher fuel consumption and pollution are the main encountering problems throughout the world. The rapid urbanization in the current study area is very high. Also the city Vijayawada is named as capital city of state Andhra Pradesh. By introducing monorail to the city we can reduce traffic congestion and accidents. When compared to remaining mass transit systems (MRT) the construction and operation of monorail is relatively lowpriced and easy. Also we can reduce pollution because it is operated with electricity. The present transport systems in Vijayawada those are public transportation system like buses, auto rickshaws, private vehicles like own two wheelers and cars. Due to usage of private vehicles in large number the pollution is very highly evolving. The current population of Vijayawada in 2017 was 1.574 million. By the year of 2025 the population may increases up to 2.214 million. According to a study observed that yearly nearly 82,000 populations is increasing. So providing bus rapid transit system for such huge population is very difficult and also very expensive so to deal with these problems monorail will be a good solution. The current study also tells us about that previous and existing monorail projects and comparison to other transport systems in terms of fuel consumption, carrying capacity etc. And also states about difficulties involved in construction of monorail in study area and finding of possible monorail route in Vijayawada. Questionnaire survey has been done regarding the feasibility of monorailin Vijayawada. During the questionnaire survey total of 32 questions have prepared and I got 72 responses from respondents.
