Abstract
Journal Bearings, usually with Babbitt liners are integral part of engineering industry, There is always a need for new engineering approaches for better liners focussing on cost reduction without compromising the performance. This paper investigates the replacement of a bearing liner by a coat of Nano-composite in order to overcome possible rotation of liner along with the journal and its movement in axial direction. The present work emphasizes on hardness and bearing stress of coated composite on a mild steel specimen. Nano-Composites of four different compositions were studied by varying the percentage constituent Copper (Cu), Antimony (Sb), Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd).Tin which is the main constituent of Babbitt is replaced by Cadmium which exhibits the same mechanical properties and also helps in cost reduction. Results are compared in terms of hardness and bearing stress with reference to uncoated specimen
