Abstract
The paper is about the concept "life" in the minds of the Japanese people based on the analysis of proverbs and sayings. The choice of the basic concept "life" for the study is due to its universality and signifi- cance both for the representatives of a particular culture and for the world community. Material of the study was 89 Japanese proverbs and sayings selected by continuous sampling of the paremiological dictionary of Japanese language "Shinkotowaza Jiten" and dictionary "Kokuto Jiten" containing such words как命inochi life, 人生jinsei human life and the words with the characters 世yo life, 生sho life
