Abstract
Composite materials have been used in vast fields like aerospace structures, marine vehicles, automobiles and automobile structures. Because of its high strength to weight ratio, they function as a suitable substitute to metals. Therefore, it is important to make consistent database of structural design. In recent, armed vehicles and aircrafts uses composites as prime materials for replacing metals for its structures. In composites, design of joints is one of the vital parts of structural design. In this work, Uni directional ply and Bidirectional ply glass fibre of GFRP (Glass fiber reinforced polymer) along with Silicon carbide is fabricated and lap joints are prepared for the above GFRP, which are subjected to tensile test. The effect of fibers and Silicon Carbide on the tensile strength of lap joint is investigated both experimentally, numerically and FEA analyzed using ANSYS software. The result of each GFRP is compared.
