APPLICATION OF ICT IN AIDED AUTONOMOUS AND NON-AUTONOMOUS CHRISTIAN MISSIONARY COLLEGE LIBRARIES IN TAMIL NADU: A COMPARATIVE STUDY

Abstract

ICT facilitates speedy library operations, services, and access to and delivery of information. It is important to assess the ICT applications in library and information centres in the context of changing user needs. Out of 28 Christian Missionary Arts and Science colleges, 20 (71.4%) were autonomous colleges and 8 (28.6%) were non-autonomous colleges, 21 colleges responded for the study. Both Aided Autonomous and Non-Autonomous Cristian Missionary College Libraries have computer facility in their library and prefer to have automation in all services. Users of 21 Aided Autonomous and Non-Autonomous colleges are prefer to search electronic resources Computer based information service such as E- Journal Access, E- Books Access, Online Searching, E-Mail and CD-ROM Database Service. This study identifies the reasons for poor ICT applications in Libraries and the reasons were grouped as Professional based limitations and administrative authority based limitations. Similarly the study also enumerates Reasons for joining the library network and were categorised as Resources based reasons and Technology based reasons.
