Abstract

The scientists' views on the use of the web quests in the teaching and learning process, the features of the web quests technologies, the effectiveness of the web quests enabling the formation of the culture of effective and safe use of the Internet environment are studied in the article. The structure proposed for the formation of this culture of the web-quests, the stages on which the web-quest occurs, and the features of information resources in accordance with the selected roles in the web-quest are revealed. There are also given some data on the effectiveness of the use of the Internet-based “Safe Internet” quest in the context of forming the culture of safe use of the Internet environment. The purpose of this web-quest was to familiarize future teachers with the problem of safe use of the Internet environment, to identify threats from the Internet environment, and to find ways to more efficient and safe use of the Internet environment. The script of our web-quest was to conduct an impromptu conference on the safe use of the information environment. Every future teacher chose a role for himself / herself, such as: psychologists, doctors, information and communication technology specialists, journalists, lawyers, social educators, then they were joined into groups of specialists and worked in these groups until the final stage. The main task was to find ways to safely use the Internet environment, where each group of students was supposed to: characterize threats from the Internet environment, provide suggestions for solving security problems within the Internet information environment, justify their point of view, and based on this data create a presentation and present their study. The list of information resources was shared among the group. Lawyers considered delinquent threats from the information environment. A group of psychologists received information about psychological problems encountered when using the information environment. A group of doctors worked with resources revealing physiological threats to the use of the information environment. Social educators studied the resources about moral and spiritual threats from the information environment of the Internet. A group of journalists dealt with content threats. A group of specialists in information and communication technologies considered information security resources (viruses, identity theft, etc.). The “Safe Internet” web quest is divided into 3 stages: at the first stage, future teachers were asked to choose one problem from the list that was offered in their group of specialists. After that, they received an information case for processing. At this stage, each student was to analyse the threats that arise when using the information environment in the viewpoint of their focus. The second stage: that was a group work. The group's goal was to prepare a report, a presentation and a video clip with suggestions for the safe use of the Internet information environment. The third stage was the conference itself, where the future teachers spoke and proposed solutions to the problem, presented their work and discussed the results. After carrying out the web-quests, we conducted a questionnaire. And it was found out that the motivation of the future teachers to study the topic grew by 37.5%, as well as the level of their knowledge on the problem of safe use of the information environment increased by 43%, which allowed us to suppose that the pedagogical condition of using the technology of the web quests in the educational process, which are designed to help the future teachers develop the culture of effective and safe use of the Internet environment, turn out to be effective.
