THE ROLE OF EXTRALINGUISTIC FACTORS IN TOPONYMY

It is known that toponymy, taxonomic study of place-names based on etymological, historical and geographical information. Toponymy is concerned with the linguistic evolution (etimology) of place-names and the motive behind the naming of the place (historical and geographical aspects). The article deals with changes in Azerbaijanian toponymy system in connection with social-political events, with the most important features that must be taken into consideration during rename. It is necessary to determine legal regulations and procedures of nomination and renaming of geographical object in state legislation.
