Abstract
The Russian “Historical and Cultural Standard”, contained in the educational document “The Concept of a New Educational-Methodical Complex on Russian History” (2013-2017), is analysed through the term “history strategy”. It is substantiated that the Standard is an old (“Short Course of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks)”) / new strategy of legitimizing the state’s interference in history strategy with regard to history education in secondary school and education of good citizenship. Attempts to implement the Standard principles in history textbooks involve the administrative and financial resources of the state. The document contains a set of exclusive ideological interpretations for the representation and assessment of events, the activities of historical figures whose actions lack consensus in the society and who remain the subject of discussions. The difference is marked between Ukrainian and Russian visions and representations of the construct of the historical memory of the nations and their own images of the past.
