Figures of Geology and Mining scientists in Ukraine of the XIX - early XX century: the issue historiography

The history of the development of geology and mining knowledge in Ukraine is associated with the scientific work of famous professors of the Kharkiv, Kyiv, Novorossiysk universities, and the Katerynoslav Higher Mining College of the 19th - early 20th century. The study of historiography was carried out in several directions: the life path of scientists, scientific, pedagogical and educational activities, a scientific heritage, the creation of a bibliographic branch resource. It is noted that the lowest percentage of publications falls on the study of the contribution of Geology and Mining scientists to the bibliographic information space development. The first period (pre-revolutionary) of historiography can be called a period of accumulation of historical facts and appearance of reference literature. The second period (1918-1980s) is characterized by the emergence of regional works on the historical geological studies of Ukraine, biobibliographies, mining memoirs, studies of geology bibliography. The publications that have historiographical and bibliographical value are noted. The article of the famous bibliographer M. P. Humeniuk on the role of bibliography in the works of P. A. Tutkovsky comes into notice. Unfortunately, the percentage of works in the Ukrainian language was law at that time. In the last period (90s of the 20th ct. - early 21th ct.), biographical research of V. I. Onopriienko, studies of H. K. Shvydko, as well as a monographic publication on geologists of Odesa University are of great importance. An analysis was made of biobibliographic indexes and catalogs created by the Scientific Technical Library of the National Mining University (Dnipro), Scientific Library of Odessa I. I. Mechnikov National University and the Central Scientific Library of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. The current information distribution in the fields of geology and mining by the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Universal Scientific Library, Odesa National Scientific Library, Olena Pchilka Volyn State Regional Universal Scientific Library is accentuated. Historiographical analysis of the documents shows that to date there is no complex scientific paper devoted to Geology and Mining scientists of the 19th - early 20th century.
