Abstract

The article describes the comparison of the XX century. Since the last century, when wars, even the bloodiest ones, were not of a global nature, were, as a rule, a matter of the army, and not of the whole people. Not a trace remains of the relative stability of social being with which Europe entered the twentieth century. “The bloody days of Paris” (1935) Jean Cassus - one of the few significant historical novels of the time. Postwar France was enriched by the experience of the heroic struggle of the people, the struggle of the national liberation, which was associated by its advanced participants with socialist transformations. In the field of literature, the experience of the Resistance movement contributed to the development of epic forms in both modern and historical material. Events XX. They were so instructive in a social, civil sense, that turning to history was simply a necessity. Without it, it was impossible to understand the essence of national development, its popular driving forces, its French revolutionary specifics.
