Abstract
The article deals with the issues of increasing the energy efficiency of railway transport operating on alternating current. To this end, both stationary unregulated capacitor banks and longitudinal and / or transverse capacitive compensators are used as reactive power compensators. The paper considers a model problem of minimizing the consumption of reactive power at the entrance and exit of the traction network of the electrified section of the railway, located between two transformer substations and fed from both ends with single-phase alternating current.
