Abstract
A network of billions of sensors and instruments are connected with each other through machine-to-machine communications (M2M) and Machine-to-Person (M2P) communication enabling automated decisions. Further, the search engines are finding the current position of a person or an object. These kind of hyper connected networks are referred to as the “Internet of Things” (IoTs) – which has been introduced around since the 1990s. IoTs has paved the way from “Anytime”, “Anyplace connectivity for anyone”, to “Connectivity for anything” through “Any-path/network and Any – service” leading to a “Smart World”. Internet of Things is expected to provide advanced connectivity of devices, systems, and services and covers a variety of protocols, domains, and applications. This paper overviews the Internet of Things, highlights the enabling technologies for IoTs, presents the research challenges and presents some of the major research projects on Internet of Things. The main goal of this paper is to give an eye open and to direct the researchers towards IoTs in order to understand the concepts and be aware of its potential to change everything we know to be true today.
