Standardization in the Librarianship: the Results of 26 years Activity

The information on the current state of standardization in the librarianship is given. The main attention is focused on the problems of terminology standardization. It is also about the experience of standardization in the USSR and some post-Soviet countries, especially the Baltic states. Among the subcommittees of the Technical Committee 144 «Information and Documentation» the activities of the subcommittee on archives and organization of work on standardization in the Ukrainian archives were covered. It is noted that in regard to adoption of the new Law of Ukraine «About Standardization» in 2016, some legislative acts will be amended, including the Law of Ukraine «About Libraries and Librarianship». The author believes that such changes will lead to terminological anarchy and confusion. The article focuses on the fact that the harmonization and implementation of international standards in Ukraine is an urgent and important task, a necessary condition for the transition to the integrated information environment.
