The main activities of libraries on social media positioned as strategic are: information on news, events, library services; collecting materials; exchange of training and advertizing materials; involvement of individual and corporate users; promoting of manuals for researches and useful tools for scientists. The general trends of strategy and policies of foreign libraries are allocated. Practical recommendations for formation of strategy of library representation on social media are offered: definition of the purposes and tasks of library representation on social media; definition of audience of library representation on social media; assessment of resources for creation and support of library representation on social media; developments of content of library representation on social media; ensuring communication on vectors: «library - library», «library - the user», «the user - the user»; creation of instruction or policy of usage of social media by libraries; determination of the efficiency of library representation on social media.
