Abstract

Rutting resistance is the most important characteristics of porous asphalt (PA), as it represents how stable the air void content of the mixtures against continuous traffic loading. The aggregate particles shift their location when subjected to traffic loading because the high air void content in the PA, which leads the PA structure to rut. In this study, rutting resistance of PA were evaluated with the existence of 0%, 2% and 4% amount of Nanosilica (NS). This test was evaluated in accordance to BS598-110 procedure using Asphalt Pavement Analyser (APA) machine. A total of 36 specimens were prepared for this test. Those specimens were assigned as UN for unaged, ST for short-term aged and LT for long-term aged specimens. The results showed that the addition of NS was capable in reducing rut depth value for about 40% for both PA grading and different types of ageing conditions. This shows that NS was capable in providing aged PA with adequate rutting resistance for long term performance
