Abstract
Pregnancy carries an increased risk for mother and fetus in patients with cardiac disease. Heart disease is most important non obstetrical cause of maternal mortality. Young girls with severe valvular rheumatic heart disease undergoing prosthetic valve implantation are in increasing trend and many of them wish to become pregnant. Pre pregnancy counseling as well as good antenatal care, monitoring and treatment are essential and challenging job for obstetrician and cardiologist to take care of these young patients. In this case report, a mother with rheumatic valvular heart disease who underwent double valve replacement 6 months before pregnancy, on anticoagulation only with coumarin derivatives (vitamin k antagonists) till thirty sixth week of gestation then switched over to heparin had good maternal and fetal outcome.
