Abstract
Speaking is one of the most important factors in language learning. Since much importance is given to speaking in social and cultural environments, how and where the language is spoken, the features of the people speaking it, and its impact on the listeners is still in dispute. In any type of speaking, speakers use various techniques and strategies. The aim of this study is to find out speaking strategies of students learning Turkish as a foreign language in Turkish prepared speaking. As an empirical study, this paper presents an existing case. 18 non-native Turkish students learning Turkish as a foreign language from ÇOMU TÖMER participated in the study. The study tried to answer the following research question: What are the speaking strategies used by non-native Turkish learners in prepared speaking in ÇOMU TÖMER. Data was gathered by semi-structured interviews and analyzed by using content and item analysis. Also, the results were discussed in terms of similarities and differences and were presented in tables. The results showed that the participants made use of 23 pre-speaking, 26 whilespeaking, and 6 post-speaking strategies. A number of these strategies are different than the ones presented in related literature.
