Abstract
Abstract We describe a rare case of a patient with unilateral musculoskeletal manifestation of tuberculosis presented as bursitis of the left shoulder with rice bodies, without coexisting active tuberculosis or tuberculosis in the previous history.57 year old male patient with history of diffuse swelling, persistent dull aching pain and stiffness of left shoulder for 6 months was examined. Sub acromion and sub deltoid bursitis with rice grain bodies was revealed in magnetic resonance imaging. Diagnostic arthroscopy of the left shoulder joint revealed normal articular surfaces of gleno humeral joint , inflammed synovium and loose rice bodies attached to the synovium. Open excision of sub acromion and subdeltoid bursae along with rice bodies was done and sent for HPE. The tissue showed chronic granulomatous inflammation with typical caseous necrosis. Here we report on clinical, radiological and pathological findings in a patient with tuberculous sub acromion and sub deltoid bursitis accompanied by multiple rice grain bodies and conducted a literature review.
