Abstract

This study aims to investigate the palliative nursing for high risk infant. For the development of palliative nursing for high risk infants, nurses should provide professional palliative nursing to improve the life quality of the high risk infant based on knowledge, attitudes and skills in palliative nursing. First, if the perception of nurse for death is negative, she will show passive and negative attitude in performing the palliative nursing, so she needs to develop a positive perception for death through death-related education reducing the burden on palliative nursing. Second, Caring the infant facing death and his/her family in a situation where the preparation for the palliative nursing is insufficient is likely to be a negative experience not only for the infant bit also for nurses, so it needs to provide related education continuously in practice. Third, nurse should be provided with a protocol based on evidence for palliative nursing for newborn infants and related training. For this, above all, NICU nurses shall have an interest in the palliative nursing for high risk infants.
