Abstract

Kawasaki disease, previously known as mucocutaneous lymph node syndromeis an acute systemic vasculitis. It progresses to coronary artery abnormalities in 25 percentage of untreated children. Incidence is variable. We report a case of 2 years old male child who presented with fever for 8 days along with redness of the eyes and swelling of left leg for one week duration. On examination he was febrile, and bilateral non tender, enlarged cervical lymphnodes ,bilateral nonpurulent conjunctivitis, cracked lips strawberry tongue was present. Investigations showed thrombocytosis, elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, positive C reactive protein. He was diagnosed as Kawasaki disease and treated with intravenous immunoglobulins and aspirin. Though it is not an uncommon disease in paediatric population, high index of suspicion is required to make a clinical diagnosis as a number of other conditions may mimic Kawasaki disease.
