Abstract
The memorial component of the academic collection “Over a hundred years” has been analyzed, allowing to clarify the approaches of the academic community to historical sources at the stage when memoirs were recognized as their integral part, which became an important impetus in the search, collection and introduction to science of a large array of historical materials and evidence of a new stage in the evolution of Ukrainian memoiristics. The attention of the editorial staff of the “Over a Hundred Years” journal to the memoirs is indicative of the understanding among the scientific community of the importance of sources of personal origin for coverage of both historical events and biographies of Ukrainian figures. The archaeographical processing of memoirs demonstrates the high professional level of those who was discovering, arranging and commenting on them. Deep socio-political transformations of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries contributed to the formation of a high level of national and political selfidentification of the authors of memoirs, who perceived themselves as an integral part of the Ukrainian socio-political life. We see the authors of memoirs as socially active, self-sufficient individuals, who sought to comprehend events that they witnessed or participated in. The social background and communication circle, depicted in the memoirs, allow us to study the circumstances that formed the personality of each of the authors. The considered memoirs provide material for biographical studies of regional figures of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, whose names remained outside the scientific discourse for a long time. A special potential in this context belongs to memoirs on the activity of communities in prominent Ukrainian cities.
