Abstract
The article attempts to project the theory of deetymologization on onomatopoetic material. The process of losing the original phonetic motivation of words is shown on examples of the Russian language verbs derived from Indo-European roots *bha-/*ba-. Phonetic transformations embodied in the external form of word, historical word formation modifications and changes in the structure of meaning are significant as preconditions for deetymologization of onomatopoetic Russian verbs.
