Abstract
The article deals with the issues and divergences in the accession of the European Union to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. The legal aspects of accession are defined, a brief description of the conclusions of the EU Court on accession is given. The purpose and objectives of the EU and the Council of Europe in the framework of human rights protection are described. It also highlights the reasons for the need for cooperation and interaction between the two human rights protection subsystems in a single European space.
