Abstract
Acrania is a developmental anomaly characterized by a partial or complete absence of calvarium, with complete but abnormal development of brain tissue. It has to be differentiated from the more common anomaly anencephaly as the causative factors are different. Hence, it has significant implications in the pre natal period for correct diagnosis and appropriate counseling for the mother. A specimen of 24 week male fetus, expelled after induced abortion in the Institute of Obstetrics Gynecology, Egmore weighing 300 grams with multiple congenital anomalies is studied and presented because of its rarity, embryological significance and usefulness for the radiologists and obstetricians.
