Abstract
Technological advancement and the initiation of modern therapeutic methods are constantlychangingcontemporaryorthodontics.Moreandmoreorthodonticpatientsareworkingadults,who expect satisfactory therapeutic effects as soon as possible, increasing the importance of methods accelerating toothmovement. Aim: The aim of this hypothesis was to review the present literature regarding methods of accelerating tooth movement and reducing the duration of the active phase of therapy. Methods: The methods described were categorized as conservative and surgical. The pharmacological agents used in conservative treatment, such as growth hormone, parathyroid hormone,thyroxine,andvitaminD,areespeciallyworthmentioning.Theystimulateosteoclaststo increase resorption through a variety of mechanisms. Effective methods also include physical stimuli, e.g., vibrations or photo bio-modulation. Corticotomy and its modifications based on the regionalacceleratoryphenomenon(RAP)mightprovetobeausefulaugmentationoforthodontic treatment,especiallyinadults,includingpatientswithperiodontaldisease. Conclusion:Toothaccelerationphenomenonisstillarelativelynewhorizonandresearchers haveyettoseekasinglemostidealandprudenttechniqueforthepatient.Thesurgicaltechniques have most of the human trials and also show very favorable and long term effects adding to the stability and retention of theorthodontic therapy.
