Abstract

CognitiveiRadioi(CR)ihasiemergediaipotentialisolutioniwhichiaddressesitheichallengesiofiradioifequencyi(RF)ispectrumi scacit yiunderutilizationiandiinefficientiutilization.iDueitoirecentiadvanementsiinimultimedia,isocialinetworking,iwirelessiapplication siandimobileiapplicationitechnologies,itheidemandiofiRFispectrumihasiincreasediexponentially.iTheiCRitechnologyienablesith eiRFispectrumitoibeisharediamongstitheilicensediandiunlicensediusersiinianiintelligentiandiopportunisticimanner.iHowever,it heiconceptioniofiaisharedispectrumievolutionihasiintroducediainumberofiuniqueichallengesiiniwirelessinetworking,irequiringi efficientinovelitechniquesitoitransmitidataiiniwirelessinetworks.iAiWirelessiMeshiNetworki(WMN)iisiaicollectioniofi wireless imeshinodesithaticommunicatesiwithieachiotheriwithoutiusingianyiexistingiinfrastructure,iaccessipointioricentralizedi controll er.iIniWMN,iasinodesimovesiiniandioutiofitheinetwork,itheitopologyiofitheinetworkichangesifrequentlyiandithus,iroutingibeco mesiaichallengingitask.iAivarietyiofiroutingiprotocolsiwithivaryinginetworkiconditionsiareianalyzeditoifindianioptimizedi pathi fromiaisourceitoidestinatio.Theifocusiofithisipaperiisionitheiroutingilayeriofitheimulti-ihop icognitive iradioibased wirelessi meshi networks. iRouting iini multi- hopi networks iplaysi ai vital irole iini thei establishment iand imaintenance iofi communicationi routes.i Wei analyzei and ievaluate ithei performance iofi the ithreei candidate routing protocols, inamely: iAdHoc iOn- Demandi Distancei Vectori (AODV), iInteriZone iRoutingiProtocoli(IERP).iThe ithreeiroutingi protocolsi areievaluatediusingitheiend-toendidelayijitter, throughput, ipacket idelivery iratio iand normalized irouting ioverheadi metrics.i Wei simulated the iperformance iofi the ithese iprotocolsiusing NS2 iwith iCognitivei RadioiCognitiveiNetworki (CRCN)ipatch. iTheinumericaliresults obtained showithatitheiproposediIERP iprotocoli offered ibetter iperformance iini term iofi the iend- ito endi average ilatency, throughput iandi packet ideliveryiratio. iItialsoiattained itheilowestirouting ioverheadiasicompare itheiAODViandiCRCNiInteriZoneiRoutingiProtocoli(IERP),ireservingimoreibandwidthiforidataitransmission.
