Abstract
Article 38 of the Statute of the International Court of Justice speaks of the main sources of international law such as international treaties, international custom and general principles of law of civilized nations. It also refers to judicial decisions and doctrine, but only as an aid to determine legal norms. This research paper attempts to review the basic types of sources of international law in relation to the question of the sources of international private law of Russia.
