Abstract
Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (IHCP) is a disease with multifactorial aetiologygenetic and hormonal and is associated with high risk for adverse perinatal outcome and foetal deaths which occur predominantly after 37 weeks. Hence IHCP should be suspected in antenatal mothers with pruritus and abnormal liver function tests. 19 year old primi with 36 weeks gestation was admitted with complaints of itching, yellowish discolouration over sclera, passing of high coloured urine and clay coloured stools for the past 4 days. On examination patient had icterus, bilateral pedal oedema. Laboratory investigations showed elevated bilirubin and liver enzymes, urine for bile salts and bile pigments positive, PT, aPTT and INR prolonged, USG showed distended gall bladder, Fibrinogen level was decreased.
