Abstract

In the article, the authors aim is to highlight the changes in the field of German higher education in the second half of the twentieth century. The publication identifies two periods in the development of German higher education in the second half of the twentieth century: the first period – 1945–1989, the second period – 1990–1999 – the period after German unification. The authors conclude that the development of teacher education in Germany after the Second World War was characterized by the following changes: differentiated training for educational institutions of different degrees was introduced, the correlation between theoretical and practical training was discussed, and full integration of teacher education took place. In Germany, the special functional role of the teacher was conditioned by their responsibility for the implementation of the processes of humanization and democratization of education as well as individualization and differentiation of the learning process both that were also initiated in Germany.
