Abstract
The transport system is the key component of industrial and social infrastructure of any state, essential for a unified economic space, business competition, high standards of living and a state's integration into the world economy. The economy of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug Yugra (Russia) is exhibiting a tendency for increasing non-diversification. At the same time, it is impossible to re-profile large single-industry urban settlements due to the low transport accessibility to the territory, and because vertically integrated companies that own territories in the region are not interested in developing a road transport network. The purpose of this study is to assess the trends of this Russian region in transport and logistics as one of its leading competitive advantages in the economy. The author justifies the need to develop and implement recommendations for the development of a regional transport complex that meet the principles of sustainable social and economic development of the region. These recommendations will contribute to the development of the diversification process planned in the area, which will increase the region's economic well-being and population. Improving Russia's transport system and developing its transit potential should significantly contribute to growth of the country's GDP due to increased transport activity and the multiplier effect in other branches of economy
