Abstract
Coal quality is one of the most important parameters in coal utilization. This research aims to understand the quality of Central Kalimantan coal. Central Kalimantan is one of the regions in Indonesia which has enormous coal potential. This research conducted by taking samples to be analysed in laboratory, including proximate and ultimate analyses. The result of the analysis shows that on the average of the obtained samples from three coal layers in research area showed moisture total value of 0.95%, ash 2.08%, volatile matter 27.36%, fixed carbon of 69.53%, and carbon of 85.05% on air dried basis. Based on ASTM classification, these coals are bituminous medium volatile coal which one of its potential usages is as metallurgy coal or coking coal.
