Title pages of codices of the 17th century from the collection of manuscripts at the Institute of Manuscript of V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine: source study aspect

The aim of the research is to determine the time frame of creation of Ukrainian written sources of the 17th century using the modern scientific approach. The regarded manuscript books were taken from the Institute of Manuscript of the V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine. Another aim was to determine the specific peculiarities of the Ukrainian of the 17th century handwritten books with the output data for further detailed codicological description and attribution. The methodology of the research is based on source study analysis, which presupposes the study of output data of the 17th century manuscript books. For separation of codices of Ukrainian provenance we employed the method of attribution of manuscript artifacts, which allowed to perform the determination of manuscripts of Ukrainian provenance by title, place of creation, which are pointed on the titular pages. The use of filigranological research contributed to more precise dating of the manuscripts. The scientific novelty of the research lies both in the formulation of the issue as well as the solution of the research tasks. The subject matter of the research has not been the object of specialised complex research yet. Comprehensive study of Ukrainian 17th century manuscript book allowed to define the fundamental picture of the cultural and historical development as well as the ubiquity of the codices from the chosen collection. Conclusions. 17th century manuscript books presented for the research comprise an important source study material for specialists. Thanks to attribution, codicological analysis and comparison of title pages of the manuscript books of the 17th centuries of Ukrainian provenance, we paid attention to a considerable collection of codices from the collection of manuscript books from the Institute of Manuscript of V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine. The research defined the codices, which feature iconoclastic, architectural and font title pages. Research of title pages of the 17th century manuscript books remains relevant nowadays while the offered subject matter has perspectives for further researches.
