Psychological resource of tolerance: self‐acceptance and its functions

Abstract
The article presents the results of a study of tolerance of people with different levels of self-acceptance. The purpose of this study is to verification the assumption that self-acceptance can be considered a resource of tolerance. The analysis the phenomena definition: «selfacceptance of the individual», «tolerance», «and psychological resource» are presented. Self-acceptance is interpreted as the individual's persistent tendency to accept the characteristics of his personality in a certain modality (acceptance or non-acceptance), which is manifested in the specifics of emotional, cognitive and behavioral reactions and reflects individual experience, ideas of society, religion, culture, etc. Tolerance is considered as personality properties, which manifests itself in the ability to understand and accept another person, in readiness for active interaction with the world in a positive direction, based on resistance to various influences.The structure, main factors and resources of personality tolerance are considered. The systemic approach of the essence of tolerance and selfacceptance as complex of personality properties which the based on continuum-hierarchical approach, a structural model of the of the personality and ideas about the metacharacteristics of personality are selected. The self-acceptance resource function of tolerance is theoretically grounded and empirical verification. Special attention is paid to the qualitative characteristics of selfacceptance and tolerance, which reveal exactly the psychological content of these complex phenomena. The article presents the results of the correlation analysis: statistically significant links between qualitative indicators of self-acceptance and tolerance are established. It is proved that self-acceptance can influence to specificity of tolerance and quantitative combination of its emotional, cognitive and behavioral components. Qualitative analysis using the profile method allowed to study of tolerance of the people with different level of self-acceptance psychological characteristics. It has been established that people with a high level of selfacceptance have an inherent tolerant attitude towards others, and people who are characterized by non-self-acceptance are intolerant in interpersonal relationships.
