Abstract
Knowledge of the innervation of the dorsum of foot is important to diagnose different nerve lesions in various clinical conditions. During the routine lower limb dissection for teaching the undergraduate medical students in the Department of Anatomy, Christian Medical College, Vellore, variations in the branches and distribution of superficial peroneal nerve and deep peroneal nerve were found among two out of forty limbs. In one limb, the first web space was supplied by both deep peroneal nerve and superficial peroneal nerve. In addition, the deep peroneal nerve was also found to supply the second web space. In another limb, the deep peroneal nerve supplied both the first and the second web spaces. Knowledge of these variations is important for clinicians, foot and ankle surgeons and trauma surgeons.
