Abstract
This study aims to analyze Muslim and Dhimmi relationship in Cy-prus within Islamic law of property and obligations in the light of 17th and 18th century Cyprus qadi records. The most suitable branch of law is law of property and law of obligation to observe Muslim-Dhimmi relationship based upon Islamic court records in Cyprus of Ottoman era. Hence the record of property and obligation law constitute %81 of Islamic law court records of 17th and 18th century. These docu-ments are important in terms of Islamic law practices and also in terms of economic relationship of Muslim-Dhimmi communities. Thus this study presents Muslim-Dhimmi relationship regarding to Islamic property law and law of obligations, the solutions of issues related to these Islamic law branches. Also this study analyzes the relevance of these solutions to Islamic law. The resources of this study contain 22 qadi record notebooks which cover 17th and 18th centuries and clas-sical and modern Islamic law literature.
