Abstract
The comparative characteristics of the formation processes of private school education in Russia and Great Britain in the cultural and historical context are presented in the article; the analysis of the main sociohistorical stages of for-mation of private school education systems in the two countries is given. The general trends and specific features of the formation of private schools in these countries, as well as leading factors of their development during the period from X?XI centuries in Russia and from V century in Great Britain to the early of the XX century are revealed by the author.
