Abstract
Based on the analysis of the English press of the 1910-1920's (the professional edition of "The Dancing Time"), the process of formation and approval in the early 1920's of key characteristics of the ballroom dance "Slow Waltz" in the choreographic and socio-cultural context. The features of the transition to the modern variant form of waltz in the process of becoming English style of ballroom dance as a social and artistic form through the prism of interaction of dance traditions and innovative practices are highlighted. A complex methodology was applied, including the use of general theoretical and specifically scientific methods of cognition (source, historical, cultural, comparative-historical, comparatively-typological, evolutionary and other methods).
