EFFECT OF BULBOUS BOW ON RESISTANCE OF A TUNA LONGLINER

Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine which type of bulb will be more effective in reducing total resistance on longliners. In this study, a conventional fishing boat hull without bulbous bow is obtained from the sectional area curve method. The CFD result of the hull is obtained from commercial software, Star CCM+ using Volume of Fluid (VOF) method. Delta (Δ), Nabla (∇) and Elliptical (O) bulbs are added to the hull form and the corresponding resistance characteristics of each bulb is obtained. The frictional resistance, pressure resistance and total resistance values of the actual hull and hull with bulb are compared. Following the examination of the results in terms bulb types, it is determined that the elliptical bulb is the most efficient bulb type for the fishing vessels.
