Abstract

The subject of this article is to analyze the history of salt production and some enterprises in the industry. Emphasis is placed on identifying modern approaches to preserving and promoting authentic saltworks in Europe, and setting up tourist and recreation facilities in places where salt production was once active. Modern salt extraction methods are now much more efficient and less energy intensive than salt extraction (the authentic method), leading to the decline and elimination of salt extracts that were once a source of prosperity for entire regions. For Ukraine, this type of craft in the Carpathians and later in the Donetsk region gave almost the main income of the region. Therefore, this article is relevant given the environmental and economic problems that have arisen in Drohobych, Solotvino, and the Valley. Overseas examples of the conservation and development of salt production sites are valuable for the Ukrainian practice of saltworks revitalization, development of regions, which are declining, ecologically unstable now. The results of these studies can be used to preserve and unlock the potential of entire regions, in particular, such as Drohobych, Solotvinsk Dolynsk Salt Mine, Bakhmut Salt Mine. Balneological properties of salt vapor and possibilities of treatment of respiratory diseases in salt mines are revealed in this article.
